Saw this on the back of a LifeWay catalog that came to the house today.
The verses referenced are:
"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." John 8:36
"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." 2 Corinthians 3:17
Anyone care to tell me how the freedom we have in this country is in anyway connected to the freedom we have in Christ? Does it not cheapen the later to equate the two? This kind of stuff makes me so mad.
Definition of syncretism: The mixing of Christian assumptions with those worldview assumptions that are incompatible with Christianity so that the result is not biblical Christianity.
To equate political freedom with our freedom in Christ is an insult to the cross and to those who do not have the political freedom we do. If you don't believe me, just ask our brothers and sisters in China and India and Pakistan.
What do you think?

the "freedoms" of this country have nothing to do with the freedoms of Christ, who asked us to deny personal freedom and extend it to the least among us. but I must say, these shirts don't disturb me as much as the old ones with the flag and "by His stripes we are healed."
